this old cat-house

Just a few extra pictures. None of the rooms had doors on them upstairs, so Ian and I bought solid wood doors from Habitat b/c we wanted them to be old and true to character of the house. Here is one picture of the process that occurred trying to make these beautiful doors fit:

We are also creating a little office space in our upstairs. The cheapest part of this reno was the paint and the furniture (as seen in our little re-upholstering demo) and the most expensive was the "necessary" upgrade to our computer to a giant MAC. Well, here is the gorgeous Singer sewing table we bought for this precious computer:Finally, the disaster we have to deal with in one of the bedrooms. Because it was a suite, there was a kitchen upstairs, so we have to remove all the old plumbing. Unfortunately the plumbing was not done so well (haha, shocking!) so anytime we use the bathroom sink, it drains into one of the bedrooms. What the what???!!!

When Greg moved out, we "inherited" all the appliances that were once his (but were always ours, since we owned them) We managed to get a brand new stackable laundry machine set, including a front load washer, as well as a new stove (which we gave away because it is electric not gas) and a fridge, which was a true upgrade. One of the best things about this new fridge is that it is tall enough that one can stand one's GIN up inside it, instead of laying it down. WE LOVE IT!
One month after we began battling with the upstairs apartment, we have finally managed to move in. No pictures of that yet, but here are some of our newest craft; reupholstering!

This couch MAJORLY stank when we bought it off Kijiji. By the by, Kerry and I moved it on our own, which was not easy since it is actually a sofa bed. Do not be deterred Future Guests, the smell is gone!
First we had to remove all the old material,

Then you call your mother for help. I teased her about wearing the pink shirt again, but evidently she was advised by her um, advisor that she should wear it because there were bound to be pictures taken again. For a very clean woman she sure re-uses her pink shirt a lot :)

After you call your mother for help, she will come over and take care of everything. But Jodie...where were the bakies this time?
staples are a key part of fine upholstering. By the By, I looked up re-upholstering by martha on youtube and guess what? she freakin' hires someone to do all of hers! I figured she would have some step-by-step instructions, but NO. Just a youtube video of who she calls to do her work. Is nothing sacred?
