it's gardening season! here are some pictures of our yard as of last weekend. i can't wait to post some more once our tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers start growing. last year i canned beets, jalapenos, and applesauce, so this year i plan to make salsas and tomato sauces. and i have decided to try canning pickles as well. so i am on the look out for a really good dill pickle recipe (not from a book, from your grandma or someone else with special family recipes). nothing sweet. anyway, this first one is about half of our little vegetable 'plantlings' which were started inside in february.

WOw - the garden is looking really good. I love the paver stones especially the ones leading to the "water/bathtub" garden.

I don't have a pickle receipe but will see if anyone has Auntie Audreys as she made awesome icicle pickles.

Looking forward to having some of those nice tomatos this summer.

Hi beautiful friend!

Here's a Persian Pickle recipe. It's not what you were looking for, but it may be fun to do anyway. It's super yummy and can be spicy if you like with your jalapenos! My aunt makes this too with peeled, cut, uncooked beets. It's delicious!

Persian Pickles

Ingredients

* 1 Cup Cauliflower -- blanched
* 1 Cup Carrot Sticks -- blanched
* 1 Cup Celery -- sliced
* 1 1/2 Cups Cider Vinegar
* 2 Cloves Garlic -- minced
* 2 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
* Some fresh ginger (if you like)
add jalapenos, tomatoes, or anything else you like!

Directions
1. Soak vegetables in water overnight.
2. Drain.
3. Mix vinegar, salt, garlic & ginger.
4. Place vegetables in 2 quart jar.
5. Pour in vinegar mixture.
6. Place in canning jar and marinate for however long you like (my dad lets them sit for months at a time... the longer it sits the more flavorful it becomes)

Good luck <3
